HOW TO WASH AND KEEP YOUR KENTE LASTING LONGER
Just like every fabric, that has various ways of mentaining it's quality after purchase, kente cloth is no exception and needs to be treated with respect. below are a few ways to keep this cultural cloth lasting longer.
WASHING
- The cloth is made from threads and as such, washing it constantly will make the thread loosen up. the best way to wash your kente after wearing is to dry clean it.
- Avoid the use of washing machine to wash the kente cloth as chemical reaction that takes place during the spinning tends to fade the color of the kente.
- if you opt for hand washing of the cloth, make sure you use mild soap that has less or no bleaching chemicals in it.

DRYING
for people living in the tropics, especially in the sub saharan africa, drying of cloth outside, is the norm as there is direct sun light hence, clothes dry well and sometimes fast. in order to avoid intense fading of the cloth;
- Don't keep the cloths hanging on the dry line for too long. it is preferable that cloth is dried under a shade to reduce the impact of the direct sun rays.
- At most, cloth should be on the dry line for an hour, if it faces the sun directly.
Store your kente in a dust free environment, it can be kept in a wardrope or a travelling bag. this differ from person to person as the demorgraphics change.
